About the Anesthesia Providers at Plastic Surgery Services
What an Anesthesia Provider Does
An anesthesia provider is dedicated to monitoring a patient’s vital signs and administering medicines that help the patient feel significantly more relaxed and comfortable. Providing sedation allows Dr. Garazo to perform longer or more complex procedures than could be accomplished with local anesthesia alone. Examples of surgeries that are frequently amenable to IV sedation are upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), facial skin cancer excision, and small skin flap reconstructions. When receiving sedation or general anesthesia in the operating room, safety is the greatest concern.
Most frequently, patients for surgery will require general anesthesia, which uses a combination of several IV and inhaled medicines to keep a patient completely unconscious for the entire time of the surgery. Breast surgery, liposuction, tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), and facelifts are commonly performed under general anesthesia. While a few regional anesthetic (numbing) techniques are available for some of these procedures, they often need to be supplemented with sedation. Due to the minimal risks associated with the most current general anesthetic techniques, regional anesthesia with IV sedation has become much less common.
Anesthesia Providers
Anesthesia providers care for you in the most controlled and vigilant manner. The Galleria Surgery Center utilizes board-certified anesthesia providers. Continuous monitoring of vital signs, including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature, and breathed gasses allow for minute adjustments to the controls and medications of your anesthetic.
