Cauterized Area Recovery Instructions

This page details the post-procedure guidelines of Maryland plastic surgeon Dr. Garazo and his staff. They are experienced and knowledgeable about caring for post-procedure wounds. They explain the steps for caring for a cauterized area below. Please read these instructions carefully; if you have any questions after reading them, do no hesitate to contact us at (301) 791-1800.

Regarding cauterized wounds:

• Cauterized areas will form a scab after your surgery. This is normal.
• Apply alcohol to the area three (3) times a day, avoiding your eyes, until the scab falls off.
• Keep the areas uncovered as much as possible. Cover only if clothing irritates the area.
• DO NOT cover area with makeup until the scab falls off naturally.
• The scab will typically fall off in 7–14 days. For the best results, DO NOT PICK THE SCAB OFF!
• Cosmetic surgeons in Maryland advise that you use only NON-ASPIRIN pain relievers, such as Tylenol. (Please refer to the blood-thinning medication list.)
• If bleeding occurs, apply firm, constant pressure with a gauze pad for 30 CONTINUOUS minutes.
  
  DO NOT lift gauze to check before 30 minutes elapses. It should stop.
